This drawing is part of a body of work titled Glimpses of Fiji. In 2014 I spent five months sailing around the Fijian Islands, meeting local people and discovering remote locations.
The drawing is based on a photograph I took at a small school in Viani Bay. The artwork is drawn by hand using a graphic tablet and some of the original photograph is still visible between the lines.
The children are gathered around their teacher, wearing self made crowns and holding little paper flags. It was a special “Drug Free Day” at school and the kids and teachers staged little sketches about the pitfalls of cigarettes, drugs and alcohol. The slogan of the day was “Keep Me Safe From Harm.”
