I used a photograph taken during my visit in Tokyo as inspiration for this piece and left some of the photographic image as the bright blue sky background.
I came across this historic site by accident while exploring the back lanes of Shinjuku and only later found out that it is one of the most historical shrines in Japan.
Hanazono Shrine is dedicated to Inari – an androgynous god of fertility and financial success and it is thus very much favored by businessmen who go there to pray for successful ventures.
I have lovingly worked on this piece, tracing lines between light and shadows. Drawing is like a meditation for me, a form of prayer – I am positive that in taking considerable time to draw this shrine I have tapped into its power to bring success to the owner of this bold bright piece.
