This photo-drawing is part of a body of work titled Glimpses of Fiji. In 2014 I spent five months sailing around the Fijian Islands, meeting local people and discovering remote locations.
The triptych pictures local children from a small village in Vanua Levu, drawn by hand using a graphic tablet. Their home environment is still visible in the photographic background.
Village kids in Fiji are so curious and always very happy to see foreigners.
It was interesting for me to draw a contrast between the bright colorful portraits of these beautiful children who are such natural models — and their somewhat bleak environment. This contrast is my way of conveying my experience of what Fiji and the South Pacific region is all about.
